The basics
What is KOTOR VR?
A free fan mod that rebuilds Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic inside Blade & Sorcery, the PC VR physics game. You play the whole of KOTOR in VR: physical lightsaber combat, blaster bolts deflected with your own hands, the Force cast from your palm, and KOTOR's own story, dialogue and voices.
Is it free?
Yes, completely. There is no paid version, no early access and nothing locked behind a payment.
Is it official?
No. KOTOR VR is a fan project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed, sponsored or approved by Lucasfilm, Disney, BioWare, Aspyr, Obsidian or Warpfrog, and it is not the KOTOR remake.
Is it the whole game?
Yes: the Endar Spire to the end credits, every planet, your companions, and both endings, light and dark.
Is combat KOTOR's rules or Blade & Sorcery's physics?
Both. Your swing is physical, Blade & Sorcery's own physics, and KOTOR's rules (its dice and your character's stats) decide what a hit does.
What you need
Do I need the original KOTOR?
Yes, KOTOR 1 on PC, in English, with K1R 1.2 (KOTOR 1 Restoration): KOTOR VR is built from a K1R-patched KOTOR. It was tested with the Steam version. KOTOR VR contains no files from KOTOR: its installer converts your own copy, on your PC, for your own use. You point it at your KOTOR install, and it checks your copy before it changes anything. Texture packs or other mods in your Override folder are fine: the installer names them and converts K1R's files only.
How long does the install take?
The installer converts your KOTOR on your PC: about 14 minutes on a fast PC. A slower PC takes longer. If the install is interrupted, run the installer again: it carries on from the step where it stopped.
When can I download it?
Soon: the release is finished. Follow KOTOR VR on YouTube, X or Bluesky to hear when it is out.
Do I need Blade & Sorcery?
Yes, the PC VR version. KOTOR VR is a mod for it. It does not run on Blade & Sorcery: Nomad (standalone Quest).
Does it need other mods?
The Outer Rim, a free Blade & Sorcery mod, installed from its own page. The install guide links it.
Which languages?
English. KOTOR VR is built on KOTOR's English game: the installer tells you if your copy is in another language, and how to switch it to English.
How big is the download?
About 1 GB: the installer and its tools. The game itself is made on your PC from your own KOTOR.
Headsets and comfort
Can I play seated? Is there snap turn, smooth turn, a vignette?
Yes: KOTOR VR uses Blade & Sorcery's own comfort options - seated play, snap or smooth turning, and the movement vignette - set in Blade & Sorcery's options menu. Seated, a chair back can be in the way of the datapad's holster on your lower back: take the datapad from the Datapad row in your backpack instead (it is always there), and put it back the same way.
Can I play without a headset?
No. KOTOR VR is VR only.
Updates, saves and bugs
What happens when Blade & Sorcery updates?
KOTOR VR was tested on Blade & Sorcery 1.3.2. On another version it still installs and runs, and the installer tells you that something may not work until KOTOR VR is updated for it. We update within two weeks of a Blade & Sorcery patch.
Where are my saves?
In Documents/My Games/BladeAndSorcery/Saves/Default/KotorVR. Repairing or uninstalling KOTOR VR keeps them.
I found a bug. Where do I report it?
In the Discord's #bug-reports, with your log and what happened, or write to contact@kotorvr.com.
Can I use texture mods?
Yes: put your own KOTOR texture packs in the mod's Override folder. We do not host or bundle other people's mods.
Sharing and what's next
Can I stream it or make videos?
Yes, please - streams, let's plays, clips and monetised videos are all welcome. No permission needed.
Can I re-upload it or put it in a modpack?
No. Please share links to kotorvr.com instead, so everyone gets the current version and the install guide.
Will you make KOTOR II?
It is the next project we want to do. There is no date - follow the Discord for news.
How do I contact you?
